International Tiger Day, also known as Global Tiger Day, is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the endangered tiger species. It’s heartbreaking to know that the global tiger population has declined by 95% over the past century due to habitat loss and wildlife trafficking. However, there is hope as governments in 13 countries have set targets to double the number of tigers living in the wild by 2022. It’s also inspiring to see India recording a rise in tiger numbers and celebrating the approval of 14 sites under the Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS) scheme. By protecting tigers and their habitat, we can also benefit thousands of other species of animals, help mitigate climate change, reduce the impact of natural disasters, and provide livelihoods for local communities. Let’s all work together to ensure the survival of these majestic creatures.
